On Friday, 8th November 2024, we gathered for our AGM and social evening. Members were told that their club was in good shape financially and that membership remains strong at 100. Through the year a programme of nine talks was enjoyed with subjects ranging from propagation, vegetable growing, gardening without plastic, making a butterfly garden and garden design. In addition, the club had two visits, one to Marwood Hill Garden and the other to Kingston Lacy. The Plant Market and coffee morning was once again a great success, with crowds queueing across the car park waiting patiently to get in.
The Flower Show in July and the art, craft, photography, baking and junior classes held in September as part of the Village Show, were well supported, though numbers were down on previous years.
Chairman Lesley Rew thanked the committee: Bev Perkins, Jean Falconer, Judy Godfrey, Jennie Seaton, Sarah Frankish and club President, Jane Chalk, for their hard work and support. She also thanked all who had helped the club in any way throughout the year, with a special mention to Christine Mills, who, after many years of arranging the visits, has decided to step down.
Once the official AGM part of the evening was completed, everyone enjoyed a cheese and wine supper, followed by a light-hearted general knowledge quiz.
There was a lot of interest and excitement on Thursday, 5th December, for our second demonstration on Christmas wreath-making under the expert guidance of Jenny Nickolls. As you can see, the results were spectacular with 15 very happy wreath-makers! A huge thank you to Jenny for all her help and encouragement.
